SHAPE America Convention and Expo
Want to Be in the Know? Minneapolis is “The Place to Be” April 5-9
Are You Fully Charged? Tom Rath, author of multiple New York Times best-sellers, will discuss the three keys that matter most for your daily health and well-being, to kick off the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo, April 5-9 in Minneapolis.
The action continues on Thursday when the most decorated U.S. Paralympic sit-skier and wheelchair track athlete of all time, Chris Waddell, who won 12 Paralympic medals and became the first paraplegic to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, will keynote the Let’s Move! Active Schools General Session. The LMAS General Session is designed to celebrate the physical activity champions in all of us! In addition to an inspiring keynote presentation by Waddell, attendees will enjoy a “game-show showdown” between NFL, NBA and Olympic track and field athletes, emceed by two-time Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster Jenn Brown, and a roof-raising performance by Koo Koo Kanga Roo.
Friday’s General Session will be devoted to helping schools across the country learn how to access funding for health and physical education through the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This landmark legislation has the potential to change the landscape for school health and physical education. At the Friday session you will get the answers to these questions:
What funding streams apply to school health and physical education?
When will schools see the results of this legislation?
What should I do to access additional funding for my program?
On Tuesday, April 5 from 3:30 – 5 pm, SHAPE America President Steve Jefferies and other leaders in the field will host a workshop on “50 Million Strong by 2029,“ a bold new vision designed to inspire and provide direction to get all children in America’s public schools to be physically active and healthy within the next 14 years. Learn first- hand how this commitment will challenge all of us to reconsider, reimagine and redesign how we deliver physical education and health education to America’s students. Hear how progress will be measured, current evaluation tools and processes can be used to evaluate success and learn how you can be a “champion.” Space is limited. A free t-shirt will be given to the first 200 attendees.
In addition to the three General Sessions there will be 200+ program sessions and over 100 exhibitors, there will be an opening reception Wednesday evening will be at Target Field and the entertainment sponsor will be Zumba.
