A Simplistic, Yet Effective Technique of Teaching a Combination of Movement, Social, and Cross-Curricular Activities

Teaching children the importance of physical activity at a young age is critical in their development, both at promoting and fostering enjoyment of movement and motor skill confidence, and early brain development and learning.  According to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), preschoolers should accumulate at least 60 minutes daily structured play and at least 60 minutes and up to several hours of daily unstructured play.  By allowing amble amounts of daily structured and unstructured play, young children tend to have improved concentration, less discipline problems, and an overall positive outlook on day to day tasks and activities.  Skillastics® has the ability to help young children develop gross motor skills while simultaneously enhancing attending skills, spatial awareness, shape, color and number recognition all in the context of fun, structured play!

We here at Skillastics® acknowledge the fact that many early childhood care providers and instructors education may not have included teaching physical activity.  You may want to introduce more movement activities into your day to day routine; however, you may not know exactly where to begin.  We would like to help you by alleviating your apprehension and introduce Halfpint Skillastics® to you.  Halfpint Skillastics® includes one, 6” soft shape recognition die, one 6” soft color recognition die, 36, 5” x 7” cards that include age appropriate physical activities, and detailed instructions that all come in a convenient backpack (Halfpint Skillastics®Moving to the Music” CD is also available sold separately or has a Halfpint Skillastics®/Music CD Package that includes instrumental music that sounds like all of the 36 activities – 30 seconds at a slow tempo, and 30 seconds at a fast tempo).

With simple rules and easy to follow drills, Halfpint Skillastics® can be used by those who are not physical education experts with excellent results. Halfpint Skillastics® follows National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Physical Guidelines for Preschoolers.
